Rock Music Society Admin thinks

Wow. Bring four truly gifted musicians together and get them to do whatever they want in a recording studio and if you're really, really lucky this is what you get. You have to throw in a diversity of experience spread over five decades drawing directly from the four men concerned playing with the likes of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, members of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Trapeze (Glenn Hughes, bass and vocals), Buddy Guy, Foreigner, Robert Cray, Stephen Stills, Joe Cocker, Gregg Allman, Steve Winwood, Paul Jones, Ted Nugent, Warren Haynes, Eric Clapton and BB King (Joe Bonamassa, guitar), Led Zeppelin, Slash, Paul Rogers, UFO (Jason, son of John, Bonham, Drums) and Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kiss, Alice In Chains and Dream Theater (Derek Sherinian, keyboards). That said, this album demonstrates a raw energy that makes it sound almost live with little of the overproduction often associated with supergroup offerings. It offers a diversity of sound that whilst sometimes obviously experimental or indicative of a group of individuals finding their way together never fails to deliver intelligent hard rock. They do seem to find it difficult cramming all that talent into each song, though, with tracks of over 6, 7, 8 and even 11 minutes and while this may well be due to a serious case of self-indulgence we found that actually we are being treated to something truly special as a result. More of this please.
